Charities
The IWCNE conducts several types of fundraising activities. A number of charities are identified as recipients each year, and the funds are presented at the January meeting. Some of the activities occur monthly and provide varying amounts of monies, plus at least one major fund-raising activity is conducted each year in the Spring. Raffle tickets are sold at each luncheon meeting, and a drawing is held for door prizes that have been donated by members. Monthly potluck meals provide another contribution to our funds for charities.
CHARITY SELECTIONS 2024
The IWCNE Charity Selection Committee met on March 6, 2024, at the York Public Library to interview a representative for each of the three charities selected this year.
Heart to Heart, Services for People With Age, based in York, ME is devoted to supporting the needs of older adults with transportation services, shopping needs, tech support and providing socialization contacts. https:// hearttoheartagelesslove.org
Finding Our Voices has made tremendous strides in just a few years in their survivor-powered domestic abuse educational campaigns to destigmatize domestic abuse. Such programs as Get Out and Stay Out, Children's funds, Medical and Dental assistance, retreats as well as advertisement campaigns have further promoted their efforts throughout the state of Maine. https://findingourvoices.net
The Telling Room At The Telling Room, we empower youth through writing and share their voices with the world. As a literary arts education organization focused on young writers ages 6 to 18, we seek to build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and provide real audiences for our students. We believe that the power of creative expression can change our communities and prepare our youth for success both now and in the future.
